FF James Sweeney

Firefighter James Sweeney has been involved in the fire service for 39 years. He started with the Auburn Fire Rescue Department in 1979 as an Auxiliary Firefighter through Civil Defense. He was then appointed as a Call Firefighter in 1982. He was appointed as a full-time firefighter with the department in 2003.

Firefighter Sweeney served as a member of the Dive Team from 1985 to 2012 as a rescue diver and a ground crew member. He was also involved with EMS in the Police Department DARE Camp from 1992 to 2003. Firefighter Sweeney was a founding member of the EMS Division of CEMLEC SWAT under then APD Sergeant Mark Maass from 1994 to 2000. He was recently appointed to the departments EMS Motor Unit in 2018.

Firefighter Sweeney served in the military from 1981 to 1989 with National Guard and the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from the Massachusetts Fire Academy Career Recruit Program Class #167 in 2004.
