Water Rescue Camp Gleason 2003
After receiving a report of a
missing person, Auburn Police with the help of K-9 Officer Jim Ljundgren and his
partner "Gerry", tracked the victim to Camp Gleason. Officer Ljundgren is also a
public safety diver for Auburn. Auburn's Dive Team was immediately requested and
began a very difficult
recovery
effort which took a week to
complete.
Mutual Aid was requested for
manpower
due to the extremely difficult conditions. Dive teams were requested from
Worcester Fire, Webster Fire, Framingham Public Safety, MA Fire District 14,
Thompson CT Fire, and the MA State Police. The assistance of the CT Canine
Search and Rescue was also requested
(CCSAR). Camp Gleason is a man-made pond
ranging from 0-50 feet in some spots, full of thick vegetation and silt, and has
nearly zero visibility. After a week of searching, and the assistance of
multiple organizations, the victim was finally recovered.
